Ukiah Community Concerts Season (UCCA) has announced their next season with four concerts in Ukiah. It's even more great music for our community, with concerts including piano, voices, cello and string trio. Find out more at Community Concerts Association Ukiah.

Midwinter Concert a big success

We were treated to a superb concert on Saturday to an enthusiastic full house; three rarely performed musical jewels by Brahms, Dohnanyi and Elgar were deftly played--the composers would have been thrilled to have been in the audience. It was a musical moment that captured what is best about chamber music. Thanks to Joel Cohen for putting together this unique and beautiful musical program and fine ensemble of first class players.

Joel Cohen and Friends

Ukiah-based cellist Joel Cohen has brought together some of the most talented musicians in northern California to play a unique group of chamber music classics.

Joel Cohen has played with orchestras around the world, including the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Boston Symphony. He will be joined by violinist Roy Malan, who is the concertmaster of the San Francisco Ballet and founder and director of the Telluride Chamber Music Series; violinist Philip Santos, who performs with numerous chamber music groups throughout the Bay area and is the concertmaster for the Fremont Symphony and violist Elizabeth Prior who is the principal violist for the Santa Rosa symphony and also plays with the San Francisco Ballet and the San Francisco Opera orchestra. Rounding out the group will be Ukiah resident Elena Casanova who has performed with the Ukiah Symphony and as a solo artist at numerous area concerts.

The program will include the Sonata for Cello and Piano in D Major by Johannes Brahms, the greatest classicist of the Romantic century. It will be followed by a Serenade for String Trio by Erno von Dohnanyi. One the Hungary’s talented 20^th century composers, his music follows in the tradition of the classic German composers. Rounding out the program will be The Piano Quintet in A Minor by Edward Elgar, England’s great Romantic composer.

Season Summary 2011-2012 for Deep Valley Chamber Music Series

Our 2011-2012 season will feature three concerts.

In the fall, we'll open with the Merling Piano Trio from Michigan, hailed as "brilliantly distinguished group endowed with remarkable gifts of communication, magnificent precision, and an impeccable blend of sound."

In the Winter, our own Joel Cohen and Elena Casanova will be performing with several other superb string players from northern California, with a program to include the Elgar Quintet (piano and string quartet).

In the Spring, we'll be featuring the Ives String Quartet, which has been in planning for quite some time. Again, a fine and experienced group of players, the Ives has established a reputation for passion, precision, and provocative programming.

2nd Annual DVCMS Summer Fundraiser: Music in the Vineyard

When: Sunday, July 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Deep Valley Chamber Music Series is presenting an evening of Music in the Vineyard on Sunday, July 24 to help support its upcoming fourth season of bringing world-class chamber music to the Ukiah valley. The evening will start with desserts, snacks, wine and other beverages on the patio of Parducci Winery at 6:30 pm.

Surrounded by beautiful vineyards, guests will enjoy a series of musical performances showcasing some of the best musical talent in our community.

The musical performances will start at 7 pm and include:
Violinist Alejandro Gracia and pianist Dorothy Sugawara playing the last movement of Beethoven’s Spring Sonata.
The premiere of a trio for flute, clarinet, and horn (Cathy Hall, David Scollin, Ally Beasley) composed by Chamber Series board member David Smith and commissioned by local winemaker John Buechsenstein in honor of his three daughters
Violinist Holly Fagan and pianist David Cory Anderson playing movements from Brahms’ second violin sonata

Directions: Take the Lake Mendocino Drive exit off of Highway 101, just a few miles north of Ukiah. Turn west and go a short distance to Tollini Lane. Turn right on Tollini and follow the signs to the winery.
