Theater, Ukiah Based in Silicon Valley, this string quartet has captivated audiences from San Francisco to New York; Taiwan to London. Committed to presenting the full scope of the string quartet literature, the Ives Quartet has earned critical and popular acclaim for the depth and diversity of its programming, with repertoire ranging from established masterworks to under-appreciated gems, scores from early 20th century America, and specially commissioned new works.
An independent touring and recording ensemble, the Ives Quartet performs for noted chamber music series and festivals nationwide. They produce a concert series in Palo Alto and San Jose and devote time to a wide range of educational projects, from K-12 activities for children to annual teaching residencies at universities.
The program will include Haydn’s String Quartet #38 in E-flat Major and String Quartet No. 3 from 20th century composer Quincy Porter. It will conclude with Schubert’s String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, known as “Death and the Maiden”
The Quartet includes Bettina Mussumeli, violinist. She has performed throughout Europe, Australia and the Far East, and made numerous recordings. Ms. Mussumeli is currently on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and received her BA and MM from the Julliard School.
Susan Freier, violinist, is on the faculty of Stanford University and also performs with the Stanford String Quartet. She has been a participant at numerous festivals and has performed on NPR, the BBC and German State Radio. A former faculty/artist member at the Schlern and Orfeo International Music Festivals, she has most recently performed and taught at the Mendocino Music Festival, the Telluride Chamber Music Festival and the San Diego Chamber Music Workshop.
Jodi Levitz, violist, is Professor of Viola and Chamber Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, She has performed as violist throughout Europe, South America, the Far East and the United States. She has recorded works by Cambini, Giuliani, Hummel, Mendelssohn, Rolla, Schoenberg and Schubert and received her BA and MA from the Juilliard School.
Stephen Harrison, cellist, has been on the Stanford University faculty since 1983. He has been solo cellist of the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players since 1985. Former principal cellist of the Chamber Symphony of San Francisco, Mr. Harrison has also taught and performed at the Schlem and Orfeo International Music Festivals. Most recently he has served as principal cellist at the Mendocino Music Festival and coached and performed at the Telluride Chamber Music Festival and the San Diego Chamber Music Workshop.
